Our entire world runs on Information. We need information to perform a task, to gain knowledge or to teach our future generations the importance and essence of life. Without it, we would not have a history or a future. Man needs information to either develop his own self or the society.

With Augmented Reality, one can walk through a street and find what he/she is looking for. You can look at a newspaper and have the products jump out of the paper and form holographic images that lead you straight to where the product can be found (very TOTAL RECALLIC, ain’t it?) The whole world looks like a gigantic computer screen that is screaming for information to be filled in, filtered in and used by us.

It is a very well known saying that “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Be it in advertising, product development or any other field, the visual medium has definitely brought in new ways to showcase one’s products and hence the idea of advertising through handouts was born.

In the fall of 1997, my university built a CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) to help scientists, artists, and archeologists embrace 3D immersion to advance the state of those fields. Ecstatic at seeing a real-life instantiation of the Metaverse, the virtual world imagined in Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash, I donned a set of goggles and jumped inside. And then I promptly vomited.

The elevator at Castle Black rumbled beneath my feet. Cold air blasted against my face, reminding me yet again how hostile the environment was here at the Wall, the home of the Night's Watch. At the top, I looked down across the realm from the dizzying, almost impossible heights. I reached out to steady myself, the wind howling in my ears. That's when the scary part began.
